Kaouther Ben Hania / Tunesia, 2023 / 110 min
VO: Arabic, ST: Dutch
Cast: Olfa Hamrouni, Eya Chikhaoui, Tayssir Chikhaoui, Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali
The life of Olfa, a Tunisian mother of four daughters, shifts between light and shadow. One day, her two oldest daughters disappear. To fill their absence, director Kaouther Ben Hania calls on professional actresses and creates a unique cinematic experience that will reveal the life stories of Olfa and her daughters. An intimate narrative full of hope, resistance and sadness about conflicting worlds and what it is to be a mother or sister.
Les filles d'olfa was selected for competition at the Cannes Film Festival where the film won the Prize for Best Documentary and the Positive Cinema Award. Both Olfa, her daughters and the actresses take you into the family's world and leave you speechless at the end. It is a unique and moving film that floats between documentary and fiction.
