A visually captivating exploration of the human relationship with the natural world, addressing the effects of Terre Torturée, a colonial mission film about the 1954 eruption of Nyamulagira volcano. This exploration highlights cultural heritage, colonial legacy and ecosystem resilience.
Petna Ndaliko Katondolo is a master of editing. In this film, he effortlessly jumps from the eruption of the volcano, to images of Lake Kivu, from the hectic city life of Goma on the one hand and Manhattan on the other, to reflections on the colonial film Terre Torturée. This aesthetic film focuses on ecology and the struggle against neocolonialism.
