Avant premiere
In the matriarchal coastal village of Iyi, Mama Efe is honoured as a mediator between the people and a West African water goddess, Mami Wata. When a growing number of children inexplicably die, Mama Efe's contact with the mysterious sea goddess is called into question. A rebellion threatens when the mysterious Jasper appears and takes advantage of this commotion. Mama Efe's two daughters feel compelled to restore harmony in the village to preserve their community.
A beautiful black-and-white film adaptation of a folktale from Nigeria by director Obasi; about the struggle between the sexes, tradition versus progress and forced cooperation.
After the film, everyone is welcome to attend the opening reception with African appetizers.
