Algeria 1957. In a small village, seven fighters have been captured by the French army. For seven days, the bell will ring once each day and a combatant will be executed. 

Gagged and with a hooded, they will not know their identity once dead. Louisa, one of the villagers, fears that her husband is one of the seven prisoners. The next day, the bell rings.

Desperate for intimacy, Ali follows his girlfriend’s suggestion that puts their relationship to the test. The plan unfolds unexpectedly when gender roles become blurred.

Tì ẹ Ńbọ̀ tells the story of Feranmi, a 19-year-old who struggles to grapple with his feelings for his friend, Tolulope. His father, who does not agree with these changes, goes to extreme lengths to ensure that his son returns to his definition of ‘normal’.

A young "Garibou" named Baillo begs every day on behalf of his caretaker, the Moualim. In the evening, the Moualim imposes terror over Baillo and the other children of the Koranic school. To escape this tyranny, Baillo takes refuge in his imagination. But when his younger brother Sékou is placed with the Moualim, nothing can turn him away from the unbearable reality of their condition.

After a family tragedy, a father tries to make his son a 'man' by organising a series of hunting trips, at the request of his traditional grandfather. The grandfather's patriarchal influence seeps into the family tree and has fatal consequences.

About YAFMA 

10th edition of YAFMA's short film competition! The annual Guido Huysmans Young African Film Makers Award (YAFMA) supports new African talent. The competition aims to keep its finger on the pulse with stories by young filmmakers from Africa. Guido Huysmans, co-founder of AFF, died in the summer of 2014 after travelling through Africa, where he was looking precisely for these young filmmakers. From more than 2,000 submissions, 20 short films were selected. They will be screened at M Leuven. 

Awards ceremony at the Awards Night on Saturday 27 April, 7.30pm (Cinema ZED). To celebrate YAFMA's 10th edition, the AFF management will present an extra festival award in addition to the jury prizes.
