GARDEN TALES | Eigen haard is goud waard
There’s no place like home
Those were the words of Auguste Vande Kerckhove when he built his mansion in 1911. Behind the elegant façade designed by Henri Van Massenhove, two adjoining gardens welcomed guests of this prosperous industrial family.
From the steps, they first saw a small rose garden with a classical layout. A true extension of the living room, this formal garden functioned as an additional entertaining space for its hosts. This first outdoor area was followed by a small landscaped garden for visitors to stroll around.
Today, only traces of the winding path and flowerbeds remain, fragile reminders of a garden that is more than a century old.
