In this new solo, titled Moteur, Cassiel Gaube revisits the multiple techniques that have nourished and informed his understanding of dance: ballet, as a major nexus in Western dance history, – which Steve Paxton characterises by a desire to extend limbs into space, away from the body's center – alongside postmodern and contemporary techniques, as well as house dance and the rhizome of social dances in which it is inscribed. His objective is to highlight what each of them allows us to see/feel/think about the spectrum of kinaesthetic possibilities of the human body and exploring their potential intersections.
Each technical tradition is treated as a unique prism through which to apprehend the body's dancing possibilities. The work aims less to synthesise these approaches than to identify their underlying logics and explore what arises at their intersections – where the saliences of one reveal the interstices of another and the contact of their differences opens kinaesthetic spaces yet to be imagined.
